Golden HR OSCAR 2008 for Viena International

Engineering firm Viena International yesterday received first prize in the HR OSCAR competition for 2008 for its “Education for Young Machinists” project, which it presented at the New Trends in Staff Management conference organised by Trenkwalder, a.s. The mission of the HR OSCAR competition is to honour the best projects in the field of human resources development and management which have markedly contributed to the advancement of their company.

The “Education for Young Machinists” project receiving the honour is a long-term project that is still underway. “Over eight years it has delivered 164 highly-qualified workers who have passed professional examinations valid across Europe. Each year, several graduates of the Unified School in Martin successfully continue their studies at university. There are three such students at present. The remaining 161 graduates have either found employment directly with our company, or, with the qualification acquired, became employed without difficulty at other businesses in Martin or the Turiec region. Thus, all of the graduates involved in this project have found places in the labour market and do not figure on the unemployment rolls,” says Viena International Executive Director Eduard Šustr.

“Receiving this award is testimony to the fact that human resources development and management at our company is at a high level. Additionally, it confirms that our company is fully aware that greatest assets and potential it has are concentrated in the quality workforce it makes use of. We strive, therefore, to continuously nurture and educate of our co-workers, while at the same time creating for them a quality work environment with the potential for further advancement,” Šustr says.

The project was not abandoned even in the demanding times of the present economic crisis, and continues into its tenth year. Through preparation of a quality workforce, the company is looking forward to a future boom.
